Cold Feet

It might have been an elbow to the back. Or perhaps it was just a firm hand on my shoulder. It makes no difference, the result was my being startled out of what was, from the best I could recall, a comforting dream.

There was muffled whimpering coming from Lukas' room. Only half awake, I ignored it, rolled back over, and immediately fell back to sleep. Then only moments later another cry, this time louder, woke me up once again. I glanced at the clock.

4:30 AM.

Uhhg. I immediately got up and stumbled my way to his room. He lay there on his side, rubbing his eyes, but otherwise looked fine.

"What's wrong buddy?" I managed to articulate through the fog. This was the second time that night I had been called to his room.

"My feet!" he whimpered. "What about your feet Buddy? Do they hurt?"

"My feet..........are sticking out of the covers!" "Cover them up daddy."

I quickly pulled the covers over his socked feet, and without saying anything more, made my way back to bed.

I didn't even bother to roll my eyes.

This made me laugh out loud. The same thing has happened to us, except the reason is normally that Harry (the bear) has fallen on the floor.

Not the feet....Oy Vey. If it's not teeth, or it's not a stinky diaper, then it's feet huh? Funny

What kind of monster makes fun of his kid's feet being cold? EVERYONE knows you can't sleep without warm feet.

Also, uh, I'll have whatever Anonymous is having.

This is almost a nightly occurrence in my house too! We keep trying to teach him to cover himself up, but I guess no one does it as good as Mommy and Daddy!

My oldest is six and he tries the same thing with me.

It is still better than you wfie putting HER cold feet on your leg to warm up...this way, you still knew you had something warm to go back to. A father's job is never done...good job DAD!!!

He let you get away that easily?!

I think there's more of this to come.

Oh no! Glad he went back to sleep, my nephew was here over the weekend and he DID wake and get up at 4:30! We were all foggy that day. :)

When I was around 5 years old I used fear my parents were going to leave me. So... every night I would undoubtedly wake up somewhere around 4:30 screaming "MOM!!!" several times over. When she'd answer "yes" in the most tired and annoyed way... I'd only say "Oh never mind" and go back to sleep comforted by the fact that she hadn't left me.

I know I'm going to pay for doing that to her one day.

Funny stuff--dad to the rescue!

I appreciate the simple 0430 wake-ups as opposed to the more complex problem solving.

Lately my daughter has made a habit of climbing into bed around 4:45. It is close enough to when I wake up to keep me from rushing her back to her room.

But it is early enough to make me extra tired. Grumble, grumble.

Can you cover my feet?

Ah, the concept of relative effort is lost on little ones :-) It must have been an overwhelming task for the little feller!

I'd have been thrilled with my son going right back to sleep after that. We're at the let's hang out at 2am phase right now. Looking forward to that being over soon.

Hey! That was probably the same night I had to get up and put a blanket back on my youngest because he'd kicked his off and thought it would be easier to scream for daddy than to just reach down and pull it up.

All these stories I read about older kids and sleep problems make me depressed. They show me that my victories of an all night sleep are only temporary, and I may never get a prolonged period of good sleep ever again. Thanks.

I'm not sure which I dislike more, getting called into the room in the middle of the night for little things like feet sticking out from the covers or for bigger things like bad dreams. The first is just annoying, the second harder to deal with! Good luck.

I'm too tired to roll my eyes at that time of the morning. In fact most of the time I'm too tired to get out of bed and I make him come into ours.
