Monthly 5. What I'm Enjoying in February

Drinking:  Alaskan Amber Ale  This is an old favorite of mine and still one of the best Micro Brews you will find.  Goes great with a big bowl of homemade chili and a slice of cornbread. Serve as cold as an Alaskan winter.

Reading:  Washington - A Life  After I have departed this earth you can look for the biography Seattledad - A life reading Washington - A life.  At nearly 1000 densely packed pages, it may take me that long to finish.  But, I am a big fan of everything about the American Revolution and this volume leaves little about George's life unexplored.  For example, did you know that Washington sent off to London for a shipment of Spanish Fly after his wedding?  Ok, maybe that's a little TMI.

Watching:  Rescue Me  We just started watching Season 1 of Rescue me a few nights ago and already we are hooked.  Gritty, dirty, brutally honest, and most of all funny this series cast our hero's in an honest light revealing them as what they really are - people with issues, just like the rest of us.

Listening to: Surfer Blood  Had I known about this disc before I made my best of 2010 post, I probably would have included it.  It's a great indie rock record that hooks you and pulls you in from the start.  Plus, I can't help thinking of Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze in Nixon masks when I see the band name.

Visiting: FatherFolk  Get a bunch of talented dad bloggers together to write for a father focused blog whose posts are NOT about being a parent.  What a concept.  The editing of this site has recently fallen into the hands of the talented duo of Chris (@Tessasdad) and James (@Portlanddad) two dad bloggers I have the utmost respect for.  Check them out and put them in your reader.

We watched Rescue Me for a number of years....didn't watch last summer because my step-daughter was here and she always watched with us, and since she goes to bed way later than us we just never made time to watch it. I used to enjoy the show though - keep watching.

I've been on an instant streaming Netflix Rescue Me journey for a few months now. I have 3 episodes left of the last season available (the final season is not out yet). I've watched them all back to back. I have to say that Tommy Gavin is going in my hall of fame of great TV characters. I love the show. It's kind of a great guys soap opera or something like that.

And I always like these posts. I don't read and rarely drink micro brews because I'm cheap so I like to live vicariously through you. This has turned into a long comment.

LOVE Rescue Me! Teaches a LOT of how NOT to be a Dad in there! It's just a good show; well-written. You have good tastes.

Whatever happened to my idea of sending each other unique beers every month?

Also.. Surfer Blood? That's a scary ass name!

Very good stuff! Every time you write a post like this I benefit from at least one of the items. This week, I'll have to sample both your beer and music selections, and the new dad collective. I'm with you: those are two great dad bloggers.

If you’re ever over here in London, England, let me know. Once a month, some great friends of mine, all of them full-time dads, make a pub run. England has as many different types of beers as Germany have breads! Although I don’t drink, my buddies will be sure to point out some fantastic beers for you to make a fuss of. But you’ll need to be quick, as we’re leaving this wonderful country in the summer.

Dexter has momentarily replaced Rescue Me because I think we are all caught up to the current season (5 or 6) on Netflix. There are some strange twists and turns, but it is an interesting show.

Rescue Me is an excellent show, and made me really appreciate Denis Leary.

I'm enjoying watching Top Gear and Mr. Sunshine - makes me laugh.

"Seattledad--A Life Reading Washington--A Life"

That's hilarious, astutely original! Reminds me of myself--I don't know how many books I've started reading, but never yet finished! The latest of my unfinished books is "A History of Pagan Europe", by Prudence Jones & Nigel Pennick. It's a fascinating overview of our pre-Christian European ancestors (which has been my favorite historical subject, ever since I read "The Celts", by Gerhard Helm).
But I started this book in 2004--read half of it, and still haven't read the second half! And the reason is the Internet--I spend most of my reading time on blogs. And though blogs are very good reading, I need to read books as often.

On a side note: The title, "Washington--A Life" reminds me of the book, "Jesus: A Life", by A.N. Wilson. This book is one of the few "life-changing" books, for me. "Jesus: A Life", along with "The Lost Gospel: The Book of 'Q' and Christian Origins", by Burton Mack, changed my entire view of Jesus--and of Christianity. I'd recommend both books for anyone brave enough to question his/her own Christian beliefs.

I LOVE Rescue ME and am waiting for our damn online DVD rental place to get the latest season. We've seen seasons 1 through 5!

And you have pretty good taste in beer, for an American. ;)
