Imagine All the People...

Lukas doesn't live a sheltered life, so that can't be what it's about. His daycare room has 18 toddlers in it after all. He seems to be a very well liked boy, always smiling, with tons of friends he interacts with on a daily basis.

So, I am not exactly sure why he needs the company. But, we have had a visitor in our house recently. Our neighbor Nate. Nate is about 8 months older than Lukas and given the hectic schedules of both families we have not been able to hang out nearly as much as we would like with this terrific family. Nate did have a birthday party recently where the boys played nice and enjoyed each others company.

Since then Nate has been visiting quite frequently. He plays with Lukas, has snack with Lukas, and goes down for nap time with Lukas too.

The only problem with Nate visiting so much is that he is not really here. He has become Lukas' not actually imaginary, Imaginary Friend. It is actually pretty cute. Lukas even got a bit upset this morning after breakfast when I went to clean up his plate. "No, leave it there!" he proclaimed. "Nate is going to finish it."

I know having imaginary friends is not uncommon for toddlers. Many of whom are probably real people. I just wasn't expecting it from Lukas as his age (not yet 2 1/2). I suppose there is no harm in it and it doesn't mean that he is in dire need of another little one to hang out with. At least I hope not. And I'm sure he will grow out of it soon enough.

Now excuse me while I go check my Twitter account.

Ok that is all sorts of adorable! Neither of my rugrats have done that, but I always wish they had...as long as they weren't like Drop Dead Fred!

He'll grow out of it...

Although, maybe have the Real Nate come over a tad more just in case it's NOT a phase! Hehehehe

Hannah did the same thing about that age....but she fairly quickly morphed into just wanting to pretend to be somebody else all the time - and it is almost constant. She'll change her clothes 3,4 times a day to "match" her character.

So cute.

My oldest went through a not-imaginary imaginary friend phase, too. For the longest time, his "Cousin Amy" was his constant companion - even though she lives several states away.

We also had a god chunk of time when Buzz Lightyear was my son's constant companion. ;)

Hey, I'm a REAL FRIEND!!!!!!!! Just because I live in your computer doesn't mean anything.

Uh, my daughter is two years older than your boy and still has imaginary friends of the "real people we know" as well as the "fictional television characters" variety.

My baby is a little younger so I don't know about that. But he does talk to the ghosts who used to live here, so I can relate somewhat.

And my Twitter account is real! In fact, all 700 of my Twitter accounts are real!

Oh, that is SO cute! I think it's genius, actually. A playmate who doesn't make a mess or mis-aim on the potty? How can I get my kids to get some?!

I think it is great, Jacob doesn't have one, but I hope he will. I think it is a great way for children to build their imagination and learn to do things on their own. I would enjoy it!

Grow out of it? You're supposed to grow out of it?

Ah, the irony of that last line made me laugh and laugh. Thanks for that!
