Bada Bing, Bada Boom

Ok, so perhaps folks here in the Great NW went a bit overboard with the Bing Crosby Christmas music the past few days. I believe the words to the song were "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas", not "I'm dreaming of getting totally dumped on right before Christmas".

However, all that dreaming and singing seems to be paying off in spades here in Seattle today as we have 6 inches of snow and counting since this early this morning. Oddly, Mrs. LIAYF and I were awakened at 5:00 AM by a loud rumbling Boom, preceding the start of the snow, which we later heard described as 'Thunder Snow'. A strange phenomenon that we had never heard of before.

However, we did get that "Noooo Day" that I hoped for in a recent post, as the whole of the city is pretty much shut down. My workplace, not known for making the best decisions regarding such matters decided to stay open. Then, when virtually no one showed up, they finally made the decision to turn around send those few back home. It was an exercise in futility that, thankfully, I did not partake in as I cashed in the baby card early on.

Have a great day. We are off to take Lukas sledding for the very first time. Cheers!

I sit here at home, waiting for that system to meet us (after cutting over the Great Lakes first to pick up steam). They're calling it "Snowmageddon" (no seriously... that's from Environment Canada, the government's weather authority). It's supposed to give us up to a foot in areas.

Hence, why I'm working from home. (Nope... nothing to do with starting my Christmas vacation early... nope... not at all... pure coincidence...)

Looks like we're all getting snow this year. Luke looks like he's having so much fun in that pic. Z-Dub really wasn't into it that much. Of course, we don't have all of the snow gear (i.e. boots and gloves) to make snow play comfortable. It was a little too cold for him.

Oh, have fun. Snow is not my favorite weather condition, but the kids love it. It's so magical to them.

@Scifi - "SnowMageddon? Seriously? That's hilarious. I guess if I hear from you after that storm, I'll consider myself lucky!

@VegasDad - Yeah, Lukas is provisioned, and probably much more used to the cold weather than Z-Dub. Hopefully he will 'warm' up to it.

@Diane - He did have a great time. Now we are preparing for an even bigger strom which is on it's way tomorrow. White Christmas, indeed. It's been nice.

Oh, how I love snow (from afar, when I don't have to deal with it!) Looks beautiful!!! My poor kids get excited when we get a dusting. I'll have to get them north or west to see some real snow one of these days!

I have heard of the old wives tale that 7 days after you have lightning and thunder in the winter months you get snow. But not within minutes.

I am jealous though. I want a white Xmas too.

I want Nooooooooooo

Have fun! I talked to my brother yesterday (He lives in Everett), and he said it was coming down like crazy. Hopefully you guy's get to play in it more than you have to drive in it.

@Scary Mommy - It has been a blast. That is until I had to put the chains on this morning.

@DC - I am rooting for it to happen for you too. Maybe it's just our year.

@Diane - Thanks, It was fun

@Nuke Dad - It was crazy this weekend. Blizzard conditions. Doesn't happen here that much so we just have to enjoy it while we can. Driving in it today, with chains - Not to bad.

I plan on sledding with the kids tomorrow.
The life insurance is paid up, so I'm ok to go.
Have fun with all of that snow.

Great post and great site!

I am a Southern california transplant now living in Omaha Nebraska. My soon to be born daughter will probably only know white christmases. Despite the bitter cold and precarious driving conditons, there is something to be said about a white christmas over a 80 degree one.

@Adam - Yeah, the White Christmas was something special. We can't count on it here, where it happens maybe once every 15 - 20 years. Seems like you may get it every year though. Enjoy.
