One Color He Can Wait to Learn

I have posted more than once about my son's enthusiasm for all things Elmo.

Well, a few days ago Mrs. LIAYF and I pulled out a basket of old toys which Lukas had not seen in quite a while. Sitting amidst these toys was a small red stuffed Elmo. Upon seeing him, Lukas nearly exploded with excitement and flashed a huge smile the size of Texas. He has rarely let that Elmo out of his sight since.

Seeing how happy it made him, we let Lukas take this Elmo along to daycare with him. While there, he laid down at nap time with his friend, and immediately fell fast sleep. In fact, having Elmo along worked so well that we allowed our son take Elmo to daycare with him all week long.

Until yesterday.

That's because yesterday, someone (who shall remain anonymous) forgot to grab Elmo out of the car when dropping Lukas off at daycare and drove away, leaving our son calling out longingly all day long for his furry red pal.

So when Mrs. LIAYF picked up Lukas at daycare yesterday afternoon she learned that when it came to nap time, with no Elmo to help Lukas drift off, things had the potential to get very interesting and painful.

"He asked for Elmo all day long, but it wasn't here to give him," said the care provider.

"What happened at naptime?" Mrs. LIAYF asked.

"Oh, it wasn't a problem. We just gave him BARNEY instead"

Serves me right. Today, Elmo is back with Lukas at daycare. And someone has his fingers tightly crossed!

Noooooo! Not the purple Beelzebub himself! Every so often my 3-year-old will tell me he watched Barney on TV at his daycare, and I shudder. I'll take the red guy over him any day.

As I used to say, "It's Elmo's world. We just live in it."

P.S. I tagged you for a movie meme on my blog. With your film-centric blog title, you seemed like a natural choice.

There is no substitute for Elmo.

@Scifi - Ha! And these stuffed monsters are just about as addictive.

@raino - Thanks. But I hope to keep Barney out of my home as long as possible.

@OM - LOL. Yeah, they had a Pol Pot doll but it was a bit too beat up.

@Film Father - TV at the daycare? Boy I am glad ours doesn't have one. Yes, it is Elmo's world.

I will have to check out the Meme. I haven't watched too many movies lately although I am a big fan.

@Eric - He makes my boy happy, so he has redeeming qualities.

Oh heavens... I did a similar post today on my sons dog fluffy. You should read for a LOL. I hope elmo does not last as long as fluffy.

Talk about lesser of two evils!

@Mocha Dad - Thanks, that's what I need!

@Hit 40 - I don't think Elmo will last 15 years. He is already starting to stink from getting his eyes sucked on.

@Ed - Exactly!

@Xbox - He gives me the heebee geebees!

The Elmo obsession is unreal. We had to go upstairs twice tonight to put Elmo back in Cooper's crib because he had dropped him on the floor. It would have been a sleepless night, otherwise.

@Rob - I hear you on that one. Here we were not exposing Lukas to TV, and he picked up the obsession from daycare. Now I think Elmo is the work I hear most throughout a typical day.

Holly crap, holly crap, holly crap..... Panic! I can feel your anxiety through the computer dude.

Thats all you need is Barney playing on the tube all day at home. Just ell him Barney died if he asks for it.

James (SeattleDad) said...

@Jay - No, not died. He never existed. That's more like it.
